Introduction

This page contains a list of available HTML tags. Feel free to add to the list, but please keep the page structure the same.

Note: Not all tags are enabled/supported by some forums and/or free hosting solutions. For example, my forum and Google Pages (see links section below) both have restrictions on the HTML and JavaScript coding that is allowed.

Links

HTML Tags

Below is the list, sorted into alphabetical order.

a

Example:

<a href="http://www.google.com/" target="_blank">Search with Google</a>

This code example will open the webpage determined by the URL "http://www.google.com/" in a new page/tab (depending on the user's browser settings). The "_blank" target is the part that opens the link in a new page.

b

Example:

<b>This is some text.</b>

This code example will format the text within the tags as bold.

  • strong

code

Example:

<code>...</code>

This code example will treat code within its tags as text and will show it as it is on the screen, instead of evaluating it.

embed

Example:

<embed>...</embed>

This code example will embed an object into the webpage. The 'embed' tag can be used to embed a number of objects, including flash documents.

  • img

i

Example:

<i>This is some text</i>

This code example will make the text within the tags italicised.

img

Example:

<img href="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/51/Attention_niels_epting.svg/50px-Attention_niels_epting.svg.png" width=100 height=100>

This code example will insert the image located at the URL indicated (just a random image I found using Google image search). The original image was 50x50, so I've doubled the size when I put it into my webpage by manually setting the width/height values. Omitting these properties will insert the image at its original size.

s

Example:

<s>There is a spelling mistoke in this sentence.</s>

This code example will strikethrough the text within the tags (i.e. draw a line through the centre). It can be used for crossing out errors that you still want to be visible.

strong

Example:

<strong>This is some text.</strong>

This code example will format the text within the tags as strong/bold text.
